MOUNT VERNON — Fellow teachers and other school staff members testified Friday in the contract termination hearing of suspended Mount Vernon Middle School science teacher John Freshwater.

Eyster sentences four to prison

MOUNT VERNON — According to Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher, on Friday, in the Knox County Court of Common Pleas, Judge Otho Eyster sentenced four men to prison for various felony crimes.

City digs out from Wednesday's snow

MOUNT VERNON — Workers were busy the past few days digging the city out from under the half foot of snow that fell Wednesday. Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis said the crews were split and the city had snow removal crews working all night Wednesday and all day Thursday.

Community generously supports Utica food pantry

UTICA — The community of Utica and the surrounding area has come together during this economic crisis to help one another with food and other daily needs. The Utica food pantry is grateful to receive all of the help and donations from the community, said Perma Jean Rice, representative for the pantry.
