February 4, 2009

ASHLAND — A Howard woman was killed as a result of a two-vehicle crash that occurred at about 1:50 p.m. Monday at Ohio 89 and U.S. 42 in Ashland County.

The victim, Terri L. Brooks, 46, 14081 Monroe Mills Road, Howard, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Impala south on Ohio 89.

She failed to stop at a stop sign and was broadsided by a Ford F-350 pickup pulling a fifth-wheel flatbed trailer and headed west on U.S. 42.

Brooks was pronounced dead at Samaritan Hospital in Ashland.

The driver of the pickup truck, Edward L. Hartley, 67, Bellville, was not injured. His passenger, Abraham W. Sites, 21, also of Bellville, was taken by squad to Samaritan Hospital, treated and released.

Brooks worked for USDA. She and a co-worker had gone to Amherst to pick up a USDA vehicle, which Brooks was driving at the time of the crash. They were taking it to Mount Vernon. Brooks was following her co-worker.
