Dollar store taking shape in Danville

February 12, 2009

DANVILLE — Despite a winter that’s not been real kind to outside work, construction is still on schedule for the Family Dollar store in Danville, according to Doug McElwee of D&K Construction.

McElwee’s company is building the 8,000-square-foot store on 1 3/4 acres of land just south of Dale’s Cardinal Market on U.S. 62. He said the concrete was poured Monday and work is expected to begin today on the sides of the building.

“It’s coming along real well. We’ll probably be done around the end of March, but won’t open until we get blacktop in, sometime in May,” McElwee said.

He said the construction company is about 10 days from having the walls up and being able to work on the inside of the building. After that, it won’t take long to get the wiring, lighting and other inside work completed.

McElwee is still working on getting a fast food restaurant built next to the dollar store. He had initiated talks with Taco Bell, but said company officials stated they are not planning to build any more stores in Ohio right now. He said he probably won’t know about the restaurant until the end of March.
