MOUNT VERNON — Ever since the Mount Vernon Kroger store moved into its current location, people in the area have wondered if the store would ever put in its own gas station like larger Kroger stores have done. The company has a program that will give cents off gasoline at its own gas pumps for certain purchase levels.
Amy Barlow of the Kroger communications department at corporate headquarters in Westerville has confirmed the possibility in Mount Vernon.
“I’ve touched base with our real estate department,” she said. “They are looking at opportunities for fuel in the Mount Vernon area and they are exploring varius sites. Nothing is currently concrete, however.”
She said Kroger is exploring various options, including the acquisition of an existing gas station.
