Shuman: Rumors false about prescription drugs

February 25, 2009

MOUNT VERNON — The widespread rumor that prescription drugs were found at Mount Vernon High School during a drug sweep Tuesday morning are false, according to Assistant Principal Sam Shuman. Before the sweep started, Principal Kathy Kasler made an announcement that any student with prescription drugs was to turn them in at the office.

Shuman said this morning that a number of students did turn in prescription drugs. Shuman explained that students who take prescription drugs are supposed to leave them with the school nurse, to be taken at the required time.

Shuman added that the students who turned in their prescription medication will be checked with parents on a case-by-case basis to identify the drugs and their usage.
