Knox County GOP Treasurer Hinkens resigns

April 7, 2009

MOUNT VERNON — Lou Petros, chairman of the Knox County Republican Party, has confirmed the party has accepted the resignation of its treasurer, Pam Hinkens, at the end of February.

Petros said that in reviewing the records of the Republican Party, some discrepancies were found.

“We felt it was incumbent upon us to bring the records to the attention of the proper authorities,” said Petros. “The matter was referred to the Knox County Prosecutor, who subsequently referred the matter to the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation.

“BCII is currently doing an investigation and will issue its findings upon completion of that investigation.”

Hinkens has been treasurer for three years. Petros said the review of records is going back three years.

Petros said Cindy Higgs was appointed treasurer the end of February.
