Up on the rooftop

10:58 am · April 16, 2009

A crane was brought in to lift HVAC units onto the roof of the former Stage Building on South Main Street in Mount Vernon. The Mount Vernon Nazarene University is remodeling the building for use as an arts center. The crane had a 190-foot reach, which was more than enough for the 150 feet needed to lift the unit and place it on the roof at the back of the building. South Main Street is now open.

Appearing in Mount Vernon Municipal Court on Wednesday, Knox County Sheriff David Barber pleaded no contest to the charge of dereliction of duty, but was found guilty. Visiting judge Stuart Miller fined Barber $500 plus court costs.
