CENTERBURG — “It made a big noise,” is how Larry and Rich Parker explained the sound they heard when a car crashed into a tree on White Road east of Centerburg on Saturday afternoon. They were at home, about 200 yards away, when the car skidded off the road, hitting a big tree.
The brothers said they rushed to the car and talked to the two young people inside, who said they were not injured.
Using a tarpaulin that was in the car to cover broken glass, they spread the tarp through the right rear window, which was broken, and helped them out. Driver Benjamin Terko, 19, Centerburg, and his passenger, Rachel Gault, 18, Howard, were wearing their seat belts.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Terko and Gault were eastbound on White Road, near Perry Road, when Terko lost control of his SAAB on a left curve. The car slid and spun around, jumping a ditch and slamming into the tree in the left rear door and roof. The car spun around and came to rest on its top. Terko was charged with failure to control.
