  • Floodplain regs updated to match maps

  • May 1, 2009

MOUNT VERNON — Darrel Severns of the Knox County Regional Planning Commission met with the commissioners Thursday to advise on verbiage in the RPC Floodplain Regulations. The regulations need to be updated to match the revised floodplain insurance rate maps which have been devised over the last few years and which go into effect on July 7, 2009.

The replacement of language corrects dates and revises the subject to reflect the entire county, as well as incorporated areas included in the study.

Severns said that though the study changed the floodplain definition substantially in some areas, the overall effect of the new floodplain maps is nearly a net of zero, with new areas entering the floodplain, and other areas being removed.

Hearings regarding the revised paragraph will be held, according to FEMA requirements, on May 4 at 1:30 p.m. and May 11 at 10 a.m. Adoption of this language will allow continued participation in the National Flood Insurance Program.
