MOUNT VERNON — The county engineer’s office announces several major projects to be under construction in 2009 and 2010. Three different grant programs will result in 24 bridges being replaced or rehabilitated.
The Ohio Public Works Commission awarded up to $1,550,000 in a combination grant and zero interest loan to replace 12 bridges, with six under construction in 2009, while the next six will be bid in 2010. Due to a unique set of circumstances, Knox County is also to receive up to $3,972,160 in federal funding to replace 11 bridges, all to be bid in early 2010.
Additionally, Federal Enhancement funds of $670,400 will pay for rehabilitation of the historic Mount Vernon Bridge Co. built-through truss on Big Run Road over the Kokosing River, scheduled for completion June 2010.
In other news, the engineer reports that a $236,800 Federal Safety Funded project paid for installation of guard rail on Wally and Jericho roads earlier this year.
