MOUNT VERNON — With Chrysler’s bankruptcy and its decision to no longer sell new vehicles to many dealerships, including the former Ross Jeep-Eagle Inc. on Harcourt Road, the local dealer is taking it all in stride and has made some changes.
Ross Premiere Motors Inc. is the company’s new name, and owner Ron Ross said the changes have renovated the company.
One major benefits is the lack of overhead cost and the cost that comes with selling new cars.
“With having a new car dealership, there are a lot of expenses that go with that, and we will no longer have those expenses. So we will be able to reorganize the service department and possible labor changes, and the cost of our cars, in general, will go down,” said Ross.
“The cost of running my dealership will probably decrease and I will be able to pass that on to my customers in service and in sales,” he said.
Ross Premiere Motors Inc. will continue to sell late-model cars that are a year or two old. These cars, said Ross, will have the benefit of being sold up to half the cost of a new vehicle, and still will be under full factory warranty.
Ross Premiere Motors will also carry a variety of vehicle brands, including GM, Chrysler, Ford, Honda and Toyota.
With all of the changes that are being made, Ross believes things will improve.
“If a bankrupt company sells a new vehicle — for instance, that will be GM and Chrysler — I believe the depreciation of a new vehicle from a bankrupt company will be significant,” he said. “So that means there will be some great bargains with the cars that are a year or two old because they are depreciating so fast from a bankrupt company.”
Ross said he is determined to keep his business in Mount Vernon, and is grateful for all of the community support during the recent events.
“We have had continued support from the community by people coming in and buying vehicles, and demonstrating that they are pleased that we are here to stay,” he said.
