gay street project

Saving sandstone

These more-than-a-century-old sandstone curbs along South Gay Street were being removed this morning in preparation for paving the east side of the street. Safety-Service Director Dave Glass said eventually they will be used to replace broken curbs along other brick streets in Mount Vernon. For the time being, they are being stored at the city garage on Cougar Drive.
