Library evacuated due to unidentified vapor

Ten employees and approximately 30 patrons were evacuated from the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County’s main branch at 201 N. Mulberry St. on Friday afternoon, when employees found what they believed to be smoke filling three rooms of the building.

The library at 201 N. Mulberry St. was evacuated Friday afternoon after employees discovered vapor with a chemical smell filling three rooms in the building. The Mount Vernon Fire Department responded and investigated. The building was reopened a short time later, after the air inside the building was cleared.
