Budget crunch hits general fund

The shadow of the country’s recent economic woes has finally fallen directly upon Knox County. The Board of Commissioners and County Auditor Jonette Curry made a joint announcement Monday afternoon that all recipients of General Fund money from the county are being asked to cut 9 percent from their 2009 budgets to head off a cash shortfall.

Eric Driscoll, 32, Mount Vernon, is in Grant Medical Center in stable condition after he was ejected from his car in a crash early Saturday morning. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Driscoll wrecked his 1999 Honda Civic on Wooster Road on a curve just north of Scott Road at 1:50 a.m.
