  • June 15, 2009

BRINKHAVEN — Holmes County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a fatal ATV accident that claimed the life of a Howard man Sunday.

Eric R. Eutin, 11563 Millersburg Road, was riding a 2008 Polaris Sportsman 500 4x4 on family property in Richland Township in Holmes County, when the accident occured.

According to Holmes County Sheriff Timothy W. Zimmerly, Eutin apparently drove the ATV down an embankment and stopped along Township Road 12. It is believed, according to Zimmerly, Eutin attempted to back up the embankment. Approximately 12 feet up the embankment, Eutin apparently lost control of the ATV which flipped down the embankment pinning him underneath.

Family members removed the ATV from the victim and called for help around 4:37 p.m. The Richland Township EMS responded to the scene and called for MedFlight.

Eutin was transported to Knox Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:58 p.m.

The crash is still under investigation and whether alcohol or drugs are a factor in the crash is unknown at this time.
