MOUNT VERNON — The case of a local 17-year-old who claims he was dragged through a parking lot with a noose around his neck by a group of teenagers is scheduled to go to trial Friday in Knox County Juvenile Court.

The Mount Vernon News has learned that Dale Cline has been the only suspect charged in the incident, which involved at least three other teens. Cline is alleged to have been part of a group that tied a noose around the neck of Robert Cantu and dragged him through a parking lot while hurling racial epithets at him. Cantu is Hispanic.

In response to a request for comment, Assistant Knox County Prosecutor Chip McConville said, “It is not our policy to comment on pending cases.”

The News continues to investigate the allegations.
