MOUNT VERNON — A Mount Vernon man has been hospitalized after being shot late Monday night in Clinton Township.

According to Knox County Sheriff David Barber, a 9-1-1 call was received shortly after 11 p.m. Monday reporting that a man had been shot in the area behind 202 S. Norton St. Deputies, Mount Vernon Fire Department EMS and Mount Vernon Police officers responded to the scene and located an adult male with a gunshot wound to his upper body.

Barber identified the victim as 48-year-old Karl Michael Goeppinger of 202 S. Norton St., Mount Vernon, who was transported to Knox Community Hospital by Mount Vernon medics. Goeppinger was then taken by MedFlight to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, where he was admitted with non-life-threatening injuries.

At this time no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, which remains under investigation. Anyone with information about Monday’s shooting is asked to call the Knox County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division at 393-6800.
