  • Investigation continues in Ward Road fire

  • June 24, 2009

MOUNT VERNON — The investigation continues into the cause of a fire which destroyed the unoccupied home at 12700 Ward Road south of Brandon Monday morning.

There were no injuries associated with the fire, which kept firefighters from four departments on scene for hours.

According to State Fire Marshal spokesman Shane Cartmill, the investigation is ongoing, but the fire was determined to have originated in the kitchen area of the home.

Currently in foreclosure, the home was in the process of being slated for sheriff’s sale. Cartmill said investigators plan to complete more interviews in the coming days.

Knox County Sheriff David Barber confirmed the KCSO detective division is assisting with the investigation.

The cause of a house fire last week which destroyed a home on Gregg Road north of Fredericktown also remains under investigation, according to Fredericktown Fire Chief Scott Mast.
