MANSFIELD — Nearly every fire department in Richland County has sent equipment and personnel to a raging fire at Milliron Industries, located on Ohio 39 between Mansfield and Shelby.
Shelby firefighter Mike Paulo told the News the blaze was discovered about 12:15 this morning, and, at press time, is still going strong. He said the fire is centered on the scrap car pile, which is about 30 feet high and 200 yards square; firefighters are systematically tearing apart the pile to extinguish the fire.
Paulo said the combustible material in the cars, such as tires, plastics, upholstery and any fluids which hadn’t drained, is burning at very high temperatures.
Milliron personnel, Paulo said, are using two cranes to move cars for the firefighters and demolish the scrap pile. The actual car shredder, Paulo said, has not been affected by the fire.
