  • Investigators seeking information in farm fire

  • July 21, 2009

CENTERBURG — A fire which destroyed three buildings at a Morrow County farm on County Road 201 northwest of Mount Liberty early Sunday morning remains under investigation.

According to Central Ohio Joint Fire District Chief Joe Porter, the fire appears to have started in the center of a machinery shed. The shed, a tractor, a corn crib and a garage filled with wood were destroyed in the fire, which also heavily damaged two vehicles. The fire caused approximately $150,000 in damage, according to the Division of State Fire Marshal. No one was injured.

Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to a large barn and house which are also on the property. Porter said the farm is owned by William Quick.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office and the COJFD are conducting a joint investigation. State Fire Marshal spokesman Shane Cartmill said investigators are seeking help from the public.

“Investigators have not yet eliminated all accidental or intentional causes,” Cartmill said. “Anyone who has information about the fire or saw anything out of the ordinary at or before the time of the fire should call the Division of State Fire Marshal at (800) 589-2728.”
