Competition brings out fans

One hot truck
Owner Rebecca Scott, Danville, told Mount Vernon firefighters she heard a sizzling sound under the hood of her Dodge Dakota pickup before it burst into flames in the Big Lots parking lot at 9:39 a.m. Wednesday. She drove it away from other vehicles; no other vehicles were damaged. She said she lost her purse, cell phone and medications in the fire. The department used 150 gallons of water to extinguish the fire. (Virgil Shipley)
Centerburg to sport new look
As this year’s community project, the Centerburg Business Association added a retaining wall around the village sign. The sign is also expected to be replaced next week. (Kenesha R. Beheler)
