  • ‘Cash for clunkers’ may be suspended

    Local dealers concerned

  • July 31, 2009

FREDERICKTOWN — John Walsh, owner of Fredericktown Chevrolet, is somewhat concerned about unconfirmed reports that the Transportation Department suspended the Car Allowance Rebate system as of midnight today.

The Associated Press said unnamed congressional officials reported the government’s decision to suspend the popular “cash for clinkers” program, which went into effect last Friday.

Walsh said he heard about the suspension on the news, but has received no official verification. The official CARS Web site also has no information in that regard as of press time.

“If it would get suspended,” Walsh said, “it would have an impact on us, and it wouldn’t be a good one. This is a pretty exciting program for a lot of people. We’ve had good participation and we have a lot of people who are interested in this program.”
