MOUNT VERNON — At approximately 1 a.m. Sunday, the Mount Vernon Police Department responded to 6 E. Chestnut St. after receiving a 9-1-1 call advising of a disturbance.
Upon their arrival, the officers found the suspect, whose name was not released at press time, had locked himself inside the apartment and refused to come out.
It was unclear at that time whether or not the suspect had any weapons at his disposal, or if he was holding any hostages.
The standoff ended peacefully shortly after 4 a.m. when the suspect surrendered to the Mount Vernon Emergency Services Unit and was taken into custody.
It was determined at that time that there were no hostages and the only weapon in the residence was an ax that belonged to the resident.
The suspect is being held on a probation violation in the Knox County Jail.
Additional charges may be pending.
