Taste of Maine comes to Knox County

Kayakers float through Mount Vernon
The Kokosing River is seldom conducive to kayaking this late in the summer, but with the recent rain, 10 to 15 kayakers took advantage of the high water on Friday. They started out at Riverside Park, and are shown here coming to the viaduct on South Main Street. (Virgil Shipley)

Morr a winner at flower show
Lexie Morr of Apple Valley Garden Club was awarded the People’s Choice Award at the Dan Emmett Music & Arts Festival Flower Show, “Going on an African Safari,” for her artistic design, “Elephant, Massive Monarch.” Flowers used in her mass arrangement were sunflowers, montbretia, solidago, smoke bush and tansy. Riley grows 12-foot sunflower
