Giants turtles snapped up
After four years of trapping and catching snapping turtles, Ray Williams, a manager at Knerr Tire Inc. of Mount Vernon, captured a giant one weighing in at 30 pounds. “That’s the biggest I’ve ever caught,” he said. On Tuesday night, he laid out his trap in a pond north of Mount Vernon and went back the next morning and lo and behold... dinner. Williams plans to fry the turtle meat — that doesn’t taste like chicken but much more salty — and keep the shell to hang on his wall. (Kenesha R. Beheler)
