MOUNT VERNON — Filing petitions have now been certified, leaving Knox County residents with some choices to make during the general election Nov. 3.

In a story which appeared on Page 1A in Monday’s edition of the News, it should have been noted that Lacie Blankenhorn is also a candidate for Monroe Township Trustee. Candidates for Gambier Village Council are Audra Cubie, Lee Cubie, Liz Forman, Betsy Heer and B. Noble Jones. Candidates for Martinsburg Village Council are Joseph Black, George Hewitt and Donna Johnson. Also, the deadline for voter registration is Oct. 5.
According to Kim Horn, director of the Knox County Board of Elections, petitions were due Aug. 20. BOE staff had one week to verify signatures and addresses to certify the petitions.
“Addresses and signatures are compared to voter records,” Horn said. “It has to match the address and signature on file.”
In addition, those seeking office must have their home address verified to make sure they reside in the proper jurisdiction.
According to Horn, 13 petitions were not certified.
“There were signatures of people who weren’t registered. Sometimes addresses don’t match. We can’t accept those,” Horn said.
