Shelter taking shape
The new restrooms and shelter at Foundation Park are 75 percent complete according to general contractor Dave Hoover. Next week the electrical work will be roughed in. Plumbing, including a holding tank and line to the sewer, is complete. The plumbing fixtures are the last to be installed after painting and other work is finished. Hoover says the $162,900 project will be completed by late October. (Virgil Shipley)

Tuesday crash
No one was injured when this minivan driven by Mount Vernon resident Marcella Edwards, 24, ran into the back of a UPI truck on Columbus Road at the Mount Vernon Avenue intersection Tuesday night around 7:30 pm. Edwards was cited for an assured clear distance ahead violation and obstructing official business. The Mount Vernon Fire Department responded to clean up antifreeze on the road from the crash.
