Underwood honored for service

Centerburg Village retiree Bob Underwood, left, talks with his co-workers at a retirement luncheon in his honor Wednesday. Next to him are Dan Davis; Joe Hardin, his replacement; and Murray Hendrickson. In his 30 years working for the village of Centerburg, Underwood has performed myriad duties, from plowing the streets to reading water meters and everything in between. Mayor George Shaw made a proclamation honoring Underwood for his loyalty and service to the community. Underwood lives in Mount Vernon with his wife, Judy. (Virgil Shipley)

Mount Vernon has selected its Homecoming Court for Friday’s game against Worthington Kilbourne. Court members are, front row, from left, seniors Mackenzi Cline, Kelsey Gamble and Erin Miller and attendants Michael Hayes, Alec Curry and John Fernandez; back row, freshmen Sierra Moss and Mary Phillips, sophomores Nora Rice and Keli Thompson and juniors Ceejay Boyce and Kathleen Curry. The senior queen candidates, front row from left, are Jamie Baird, Kara Orsborn and Krista Chapman. The retiring queen is Samantha Baldwin, not pictured. In the back row, from left, are Stacey Bennett, freshman attendant; Samantha Zuber, sophomore attendant; and Lynsey Pryor, junior attendant.
