Electrical short causes fire

An electrical short in a wire or heater caused a fire at 7:31 a.m. Sunday in a student’s room in Lewis Hall on the campus of Kenyon College. The clothes hamper was burning, and firefighters removed it from the room. College Township Fire Chief Bill Smith said the fire was confined to one room. The college is on October break, so few students were on campus. College Township had two engines and nine men on the scene. Mutual aid came from Mount Vernon, with an engine and three firefighters, and the Eastern Knox County Fire District at Howard, with an engine and two men. (Virgil Shipley)
