MOUNT VERNON — Local photographers who have missed having a professional digital photo printing lab around can take heart. The Photography Place at 36 Public Square is open for business.
Owner Dan Edwards will offer a digital print service and will sell work by local photographers on consignment.
“We have prints for sale,” he said. “I kind of went around and hand picked some of the best photographers in Knox County, and these are their prints hanging here. We try to keep our prices reasonable so people can come in and decorate their home or office or whatever.
“We also have the digital print service. We can print a 4x6 all the way up to a 13x19-inch print. We also have video tape to DVD transfers available, copy photos and photo print restorations. And we will be adding more services in that realm as we go along.”
Edwards uses an Epson printer and prints on a matte surface, fine-art paper for the prints.
“We also have the used photography equipment, right now just 35mm,” said Edwards. “But we plan on offering used digital equipment as we go along.
“Most of our used equipment is here on consignment,” he said. “That makes it easier on everybody plus it helps to keep the price down. We have some cameras and some darkroom equipment, and even some books.”
Edwards also offers copy prints and photo restoration, and has the facilities to do some portraiture work. He has space set off for photography exhibits in the rear of the store.
“We have a big back room and we plan on having periodic photo exhibits back there,” he said. “These will not be month long shows. They will be short, usually Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Something like that.”
Edwards has other plans, too.
“We are going to try at the end of the month to have our first videographer’s club meeting,” he said. “There are a lot of people shooting videos with different kinds of video equipment, so we’re going to see what we can get into with that. It should be interesting.”
The Photography Place is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. The phone number is 504-9336 during store hours only.
