MOUNT VERNON — American clothing maker Liz Claiborne Inc. recently announced an exclusive 10-year deal with J.C.Penney’s department store to carry the Liz Claiborne label at stores across the country. This includes the Mount Vernon store on Coshocton Avenue.
According to Jen Bumpus, catalog desk supervisor for the Mount Vernon store, a large selection of Liz Claiborne items will fill the store’s shelves in time for Christmas.
“I noticed this past week we were getting more Liz items — sweaters and things for the holiday season — than we normally do,” Bumpus said Tuesday. “We’re getting more and more stuff in.”
Under the licensing agreement, all of the clothes which have the Liz Claiborne and Claiborne labels as well as the Liz & Co. and Concepts by Claiborne brands will be carried in the United States solely by J.C. Penney’s department stores.
Bumpus said the merging of the two names will be a good deal for consumers who shop at JCPenney, and for the store as well.
“It’s nice when you get a respected brand name like Liz and a respected company like J.C. Penney’s to work together,” she said. “I think it’s a good situation to carry such quality products and the fact that we are now carrying the products exclusively will give us an advantage.”
