  • Driver splashes into pond

  • November 3, 2009

MOUNT VERNON — A possible medical problem may have caused a driver to run his pickup off Ohio 229 and into a farm pond Monday at noon. Trooper Girk Warner of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the truck driven by Jimmy A. Strait, 64, Marengo, was westbound and ran off the right side of the road.

The truck left the road and went across a driveway, missing a culvert pipe, then went between a utility pole and pine tree, across a lawn and up an embankment before diving into the pond. Warner measured the distance the truck traveled to be 467 feet.

Strait, who appeared to be only shaken up, was able to get out of the truck with only wet feet. He was taken to Knox Community Hospital for treatment, and later released. The mishap is still under investigation.
