MOUNT VERNON — Joe’s Diner has opened in Banana Joe’s, 100 W. High St., and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with a full menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Owner Julie Dennis said the decision to open an all-day, all-night, all-week diner came from hearing people say there was a need for one and that there hadn’t been one for quite a while.
“There’s nowhere else in town you can go inside and eat late at night,” she said. “Most places open late are just drive-through. We thought there was a market for this and since we already owned the building and had all the equipment, we decided to give it a try. We had offered subs and pizzas and will continue to offer on the weekends. These are pizzas and subs I make myself. All the stuff here is homemade. We don’t use anything packaged. I am here a lot and we have Debbie Greene as manager.
“The important thing is we are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” she said. “We have a full menu and serve everything on it all day. We do specialize in breakfast, which, like I said, we serve all day. We also have sandwiches and finger food and we even have steaks. We also have homemade soups. So it’s kind of like a waffle house menu.”
Dennis said Joe’s Diner would soon be offering daily specials, which will run all day until they are sold out.
“We will have a lunch special and a dinner special every day,” she added. “We will have cards on each table with the daily specials listed. We will also be offering salads soon. Shawn [Dennis] is our cook. He’s very good and has had lots of experience.”
Julie Dennis pointed out that each table has a TV; channels include sport shows and cartoons for children when a family is dining. Joe’s Diner also has WiFi connectivity for those who would like to work during their meal.
“This is also a good place to have a business meeting,” Dennis said.
Take-out is available. For more information call 392-7400.
