DANVILLE — Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers are currently investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred at approximately 1:34 AM on November 14, 2009. The crash resulted in one fatality and three injuries. The crash occurred approximately 2 miles east of the village of Danville in Knox County.
Vicci L. Sapp, 45, of Danville, Ohio was traveling eastbound on US 62 in a 2001 Chrysler Sebring when she drove off the right side of the roadway striking a guardrail, then slid across the roadway, striking the guardrail off the left side of the road. The vehicle overturned several times, ejecting the front passenger from the vehicle.
Ms. Sapp's vehicle contained four occupants. The right front passenger, Angela Heldenbrand, 41, of Danville, Ohio, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Knox County Coroner Dr. Jennifer Ogle. The rear passengers, Max C. Carrier, 46, of Brinkhaven, Ohio and Robert D. Stribling, 43 of Mount Vernon, Ohio were both transported to Knox Community Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Ms. Sapp was arrested for OVI at the scene and was incarcerated at the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
Ms. Sapp was restrained by seatbelt, but the other 3 occupants were unrestrained. Alcohol is considered to have been a contributing circumstance in the crash. The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Danville Police Department, Knox County Sheriff's Office and the Eastern Knox County Joint Fire District. The crash remains under investigation.
