Getting their diplomas

Mack and Bud Price, at left, are awarded their high school diplomas in a ceremony Saturday, nearly 60 years after leaving school in West Virginia. Presenting the diplomas is former Fredericktown Superintendent of School Dan Humphrey. Both Prices left school to serve in the army during the Korean conflict, Mack as an artilleryman and Bud with the Signal Corps at Fort Jackson and Fort Bragg, S.C. Bud’s school records were lost in a fire and Fredericktown “adopted” him. Mack’s last school was Marengo. Humphrey said, “We honor you today because you answered the call to defend a country you never knew and people you never met.” A Thanksgiving dinner celebration was given by Dennis McElroy, son-in-law of Bud Price.
