MOUNT VERNON — A Mount Vernon man remains hospitalized following a shooting Sunday outside of Martinsburg.

Accoording to Knox County Sheriff David Barber, a 9-1-1 call was received at 7:47 p.m. Sunday from a man reporting he had been shot at the home of Franklin Thompson, 25309 Divan Road.

Thompson drove the victim, Nicholas E. Wallace, 31, to the Marathon station in Martinsburg to meet Bladensburg Fire Department emergency medical services personnel, Barber stated in a press release.

“I’m on my way to the hospital. I’ve been shot in the right side of my chest,” Wallace told the 9-1-1 dispatcher as Thompson was driving him toward Martinsburg. “Two guys busted into a garage where I was at, at a buddy’s house, and demanded money. He had a scalpel and he shot me in the right side of my chest.”

“There were two of them,” Thompson said. “They were young. One had a shotgun and one had a pistol.”

Wallace suffered gunshot wounds to the upper body. He was transported to Knox Community Hospital by Bladensburg EMS and was later transferred to Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus, where he is listed in stable condition.

There have been no arrests made in connection with the shooting, which remains under investigation by sheriff’s office detectives.
