MOUNT VERNON — The investigation into a shooting near Martinsburg on Sunday night, which left one man hospitalized, is continuing by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Sheriff David Barber, deputies and the Bladensburg Fire Department EMS responded to a 9-1-1 call shortly before 8 p.m. on Sunday from a Mount Vernon man who reported being shot at a residence at 25309 Divan Road. The victim, 31-year-old Nicholas Wallace of East Ohio Avenue, was transported to Knox Community Hospital and is currently hospitalized at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus.

Barber said 35-year-old Franklin Thompson reported that while he and Wallace were at his Divan Road home, two unknown male subjects came to the residence with guns demanding money from Thompson. During the incident shots were fired in the attached garage of the house with Wallace being struck in the upper body. The subjects also physically assaulted Thompson, who was treated for injuries and released from Knox Community Hospital. Barber said the subjects fled from the scene without apparently taking anything.

According to Barber, there is no connection between Sunday’s incident and the recent thefts and break-ins in the Martinsburg and Bladensburg areas.

Anyone with information concerning the shooting Sunday night is asked to call the Detective Division at the sheriff’s office at 393-6800.
