  • Gas line breaks near Austin Road

  • December 10, 2009

MOUNT VERNON — A 4-inch gas line broke during service work Wednesday afternoon on U.S. 36, just east of Austin Road.

EMA Deputy Director Matt Sturgeon said it was a very small break with no environmental hazard. U.S. 36 was shut down for about 20 minutes while the gas company shut off the line. An engine from the Eastern Knox County Joint Fire District stood by in case it should be needed.
