With the prediction for the freezing rain, the Knox County Ohio Department of Transportation and Knox County Highway Department had trucks out at 4 a.m. Sunday.
ODOT Superintendent Brian Hunter said there were 11 ODOT trucks and 10 county trucks on the road. Both departments said the ice was spotty around the county, but said that where there was ice, it was really icy.
Hunter said in some areas the pavement was so slick, some of the trucks had to drive on the berm going downhill. The ice was worse in areas where the pavement is shaded, he added. By late morning the air temperature had risen enough that the rain was no longer freezing. Crews from both departments returned to the garage by 12:30 p.m.
