MOUNT VERNON — The Hernando Ruiz family — parents and children ages 4, 6 and 10 — is in need of everything after their home on Smith Street, off Harcourt Road, was destroyed by fire early Monday morning.
Christy Morris, whose husband, Craig, operates Morris Heating and Cooling where Mr. Ruiz works, said she has bought the family clothing and other necessities, but the family needs a place to live.
The Red Cross has provided the family with hotel rooms through today. Morris is asking individuals or businesses, churches or the community to provide help for the family. The Morrises live on Watson Road, off Ohio 661 south of Brandon. She can be reached 392-3352 or (614) 353-2759. Morris is also working with Magnom Heating and Cooling Co. of Newark to provide provisions for the family.
Mount Vernon Fire Chief Shawn Christy said there is nothing suspicious about the fire, but a final determination as to the cause has not yet been made. The fire is still under investigation.
