JELLOWAY — A young Amish man made a left turn in front of an oncoming SUV Friday evening, resulting in the death of his horse. The crash happened at 4:18 p.m. on Pealer Mill Road, between College Hill and Reed roads, about two miles west of Jelloway.
Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Coby Holloway said Johnathan Misley, 18, DeLong Road, was driving his horse and buggy north and made a left turn into the path of Sharley Southard, 20, Blair Road, Fredericktown.
The SUV hit the horse, knocking it off the road and killing it. Southard’s GMC SUV went off the left side of the road, then came back onto the road. Misley refused treatment at the scene from the Eastern Knox County Joint Fire District paramedics. Southard was taken to Knox Community Hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Misley was charged with failure to yield on a left turn.
