MOUNT VERNON — Like many young boys, 7-year-old Ian Whitaker of Mount Vernon enjoys a special relationship with his grandfather.

“We like to watch TV, wrestle around or play football with toilet paper tubes,” Ian said of the time he spends with his grandfather, Douglas Whitaker.

Douglas looks forward to their time together as well.

“He’s great, and we have a lot of fun,” said the retired superintendent of Morrow County schools who now lives in Mount Vernon. “We go to the demolition derby and stay right to the end.”
