  • County, DKMM: Current recycling facility ‘unviable’

  • March 2, 2010

MOUNT VERNON — Recycling was on the agenda Monday afternoon as the Knox County Commissioners met with Larry Cooper, the new director of the Delaware-Knox-Marion-Morrow Solid Waste District, and representatives from Sims Brothers to discuss future plans.

As required by state law, Knox County is part of an organized district which arranges an infrastructure for the collection and movement of recyclable garbage. Cooper said the meeting had been called not only for him to bring the new DKMM contract to the commissioners for perusal, but also to discuss the county’s recycling center and the current contract with Sims Brothers.

Sims Brothers, a Marion-based salvage firm, is contracted to operate the county’s recycling center through April 30, 2011. But when Cooper asked him what Sims Brothers would do today if the contract were up for renewal, Scott Fisher had a quick answer.
