MOUNT VERNON — Working in teams, chef and catering students from around the area put their culinary skills to the test during the 2010 Culinary Affair with Pork Cook-off. Sponsored by the Northeast Ohio Pork women and hosted by the Knox County Career Center, the cooking competition requires a pork main entrée with all the trimmings.

Judges for the event watched each step of the food preparation process, and contestants were rated on team organization, accuracy in following recipes, grooming, clean up, safety and sanitation, the finished food product and its presentation.

The Knox County Career Center’s Sarah Scott, along with teammate Haley Ward, won the gold in this year’s competition with a meal which showcased pork tenderloin. Scott was last year’s third-place winner. Besides their herb crusted pork tenderloin, the champions served up a baby greens salad with raspberry vinaigrette, asparagus sautéed in garlic and pepper, baked mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes, and cheddar dill biscuits with a rustic apple tart for dessert.
