  • Enabling legislation in the works for Issue 2

  • March 6, 2010

MOUNT VERNON — Voters in Ohio had the opportunity last November to vote on Issue 2, an amendment to the state constitution that would set up an Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board, which would provide oversight of how farm animals are raised. Voters approved the amendment despite the opposition of animal rights organizations such as the Humane Society of the United States, based in Washington state.

The amendment provided for the creation of the Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board which is to be comprised of 13 members consisting of the director of the Department of Agriculture, 10 members appointed by the governor, a family farmer appointed by the Speaker of the House and a family farmer appointed by the President of the Senate.
