MOUNT VERNON — Ah, the joyous chaos of theater. Only after the demanding work of tracking down late cast members, dealing with miscellaneous bits of costume and uncooperative stage furniture can the real work of rehearsing begin.
Instructing stage hands seeing the show for the first time in Friday’s rehearsal, co-author and co-director Clare Jaymes lost track for a moment of which speakeasy scene they were preparing.
“Is this the deserted one?” Jaymes said.
“It’s the one where he dies,” said co-author and co-director Chase Ledin, gesturing to one of the actors.
“Well, thanks for ruining it for us,” joked one of the stagehands, still unfamiliar with the plot.
