MOUNT VERNON — Knox County Knowledge Bowl teams swept the regional competition on March 4. Five local teams, career-based intervention students sponsored by the Knox County Career Center, took top honors in their divisions and will compete in the state competition. Knox County teams have dominated the state competition for the last 10 years.
“We are excited that our students did so well,” said KCCC superintendent Bernie Pachmayer. “We are not surprised, though, since our teachers are dedicated, hard-working individuals whose focus is on the whole student.”
Peggy Pursel, Mount Vernon High School CBI coordinator, said the Knowledge Bowl contests consist of a potential 2,000 questions, many of which are aligned with the Ohio Graduation Tests in core academic areas. Subjects include geography, math, science, state capitals, government, drugs, literature and many more. Students were given the category for the next question, then given a point value, randomly selected by the computer.
