  • ‘Spirited’ discussion takes place

  • March 16, 2010

MOUNT VERNON — About 30 people attended Up for Discussion on Monday night, for what moderator Russ McGibney termed “the most spirited discussion yet.” The open forum began by returning to the subject of school uniforms.

On the issue of school uniforms being cheaper for the parent in terms of outfitting their children, one woman said that because parents still have to outfit their children for activities outside of school, it would seem to be more expensive to go with school uniforms, not less. It was pointed out $10 to $15 would buy a nice pair of slacks suitable to wear outside of school; if a parent chose to buy expensive name brand clothing, that was the parents’ choice to pay that money.

It was noted that a school uniform could be resold to other students.
