MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County board of commissioners issued a resolution Monday disbursing the income from the county’s senior levy. This ended a process which began with recommendations delivered to the commissioners by the Senior Levy Advisory Board in early March. On March 4, the commissioners made a disbursement resolution, significantly altering SLAB’s recommendations without further consultation with SLAB.
On March 8, the commissioners met with SLAB chairman Jim Kousoulas and SLAB board member Carl Miller. When presented with the commissioners’ new figures, Kousoulas defended SLAB’s original recommendations. By the end of that meeting, Commissioner Robert Wise proposed splitting the difference of the two sets of numbers, but Commissioner Teresa Bemiller refused to vote on it at that time, stating that she needed further information. A follow-up meeting was scheduled for March 15.
