A collision between a semi and a car was fatal to the driver of a Pontiac Friday. The crash happened on Ohio 13 a quarter mile north of Beckley Road north of Mount Vernon just before 2 p.m.
Witnesses told the Ohio State Highway Patrol the driver of the car was northbound and weaving in the road. The car went left of center and collided nearly head-on with the semi. The southbound truck left the right side of the road into a field.
Rescuers from both Mount Vernon and Fredericktown Fire Departments used jaws of life to extricate the driver from the car. The driver died while they were working on the extraction. The semi driver, not identified at this time was not injured.
Ohio 13 was closed down at Upper Fredericktown Road by an ODOT crew and at the Fredericktown bypass by sheriff’s deputies. It was closed for more than two hours while Patrol Troopers investigated the scene. Knox County Coroner Dr. Jennifer Ogle pronounced the driver dead at the scene.
